Birthday Suitcase

I was asked to make a birthday card for a friend who was going to receive a travel certificate to anywhere he wants to go......so, the theme had to be travel.  I was trying to come up with some ideas and luckily, my mom had just found a DCWV paper pack all about Travel! I scoped it out while I was at her house and she let me take the pack home and use what I needed.

As I struggled with card ideas, I thought about a suitcase instead!!!  Since I hoard my craft materials, I knew exactly what I could use.  I decided to get one of the old plastic cases the Sizzix dies come in and turn that into a suitcase!  Here is the result!!!

I grabbed the paper that looked like an old leather trunk and cut it out to size (front and back). Glued it on with my ATG gun and sanded the edges.   I then took brown ribbon and made handles and then took the same brown ribbon and went all around the edges of the 'suitcase'

This is the card that went inside the suitcase. I took my hoarded accordion paper and covered the front and back with coordinating paper and some metal embellishments I found that were travel themed.  I left one panel open for the handwritten sentiments and then I sponged all the edges with distress inks.

Here's a picture of both together.  I was REALLY excited for the end result and I know my "client" (ha ha) was too!!!  So........a Belated Happy 40th Birthday to Jim!!!  Can't wait to hear where you are going on your trip!!!!

Additionally.......I want to wish my parents a very Happy Anniversary today!!!
