Oh my............what have I gotten myself into? We will all soon find out! But, yes, Frank and I (mostly I, but he's always my bestest supporter) have taken on a foster dog.
Pinky came to CT Humane as a puppy in the winter of 2010. She was adopted out and sadly, but gratefully, returned to us this past April. She came back severely overweight, an ear infection and fleas. Additionally, she has two bad knees and arthritis in her hips because of her weight. Did I mention she's also deaf? Yes.......the owner thought it was a smart idea to taunt her while she ate, making her have some food aggression issues. Gotta love THOSE adopters!
Before surgery is considered for her knees, she needs to lose weight. Along with that, aqua therapy was recommended to relieve the pain and help strengthen her muscles. So....guess who's got a pool where she can do therapy? Yup..........us!
Frank agreed to have a kennel built in our yard and on Saturday, I brought Pinky home (temporarily!!!!).
I went to a local pet therapy place and they gave me lessons on what I need to do with her. So, every other day, we will swim, stretch and massage her in the pool. And hopefully 15lbs comes off of her QUICKLY!!!!
I'm writing this post up on Saturday night (our first day together) and I gotta say, I'm a little stressed. I've never had an 'outdoor' dog and I'm not sure I will sleep tonight thinking of her outside (although we put a doggy door from the kennel to our shed so she can sleep 'indoors' but I'm not sure if she'll get that!!
Anyways..........I've gone on long enough........here are a few pictures of Pinky!
Hope you're having a great day and I hope Pinky's settling in at my house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for your visit!

Hi - it's Maria - Editing to say....I caved on Saturday night and brought her inside for the night. Couldn't handle her being out there all night!!!
So, each night she'll come inside and sleep in a crate! That way - everyone can sleep!!
It is so nice of you to bring a foster dog home and what a great hubby to build a kennel for her. Don't you just love that DP with the stamp today, forgot to say who it was from, which I knew because I keep it separate and labeled, I pre-posted everything, sorry about that.
Oh My Goodness!!! First of all, she's so pretty!!! But to have so many problems (sounds a little like me! LOL). It's just horrible how people can treat animals!!!!! I'm so glad you ended up bringing her in for the night too. You have your work cut out for you but know you'll help her get that weight off and she'll feel so much better.
You are a very special lady Maria!

How wonderful of you to foster Pinky! I know what you mean about not letting the poor darling sleep outside. I wouldn't sleep either. Bless You.

you're awesome and Pinky's a lucky girl and looks happy already! I would cave and have her inside too! :)
That's not caving it is way to make both of you happy. I hope Pinky settles in quickly and is able to shed her extra weight. How are your other dogs taking to her?
Ya Maria!! Congrats on your new baby! :)
I get so sad when I read stories about how badly people treat animals...makes me so angry. But then, there are people like you, who are there to make their lives better and that is such a good thing. I'm so glad the little Miss Pinky is able to find love again while she lives with you. Even if she is going to have to be on a big diet, lol! Give her a big hug from me and the boys! :)
