HSS80 - Happy Birthday

One of my regular blog visitors, Anne Marie is on the Hand Stamped Sentiments design team.  This week, their challenge was stitching - either real or faux. I've been saying that I have to attempt to start sewing again and this challenge gave me good incentive!

Now - we ALL have to start somewhere.....right?  Yikes.........I need A LOT more practice!  Plus, I'm easily frustrated by not knowing much about the sewing machine!  I sat down to sew a layer and the stupid needle wouldn't pick up the bobbin string.  So after trying about 5 minutes and wasting about 5 feet of thread, I called my mom.  She's the best! Walked me right through what I was doing wrong :)

She can't help me with my crooked lines...but hopefully in time, it will get better. Here's my attempt:

The card isn't TOO detailed because my main focus was trying to sew.  If you squint your eyes....the lines look pretty good.  Really.................try it.............squint...................see??  Told  ya!

Thanks for your visit!

Your stitching is awesome and long live moms for always bailing us out.
Please, please don't be so harsh on yourself.

This card is colourful and vibrant.

I think you did a great job!!! You did it, I still am on the faux, too much trouble to get the machine out:) Love your card with the colors and the layers with the flowers. Have a great day!

Way to keep trying something new, Maria! Maybe making your stitches a little shorter might help, especially at the corners, which is where I always have trouble, too. Still a very cute card; I like the letter paper!

I'm not even squinting and it looks good! You're so brave to do the straight stitching...I've just been doing the zig zag so far. Maybe I'll have to try the straight now!
Love your fabulous card - and get on a'stitching....

I am so glad you tried stitching. Don't be so hard on yourself. I think the stitching looks good. Great card!

(p.s. I can't sew straight. I always pencil a light line to follow when I am sewing or I would be all over the place.)

Maria, your card ROCKS!! I'm terrified of my sewing machine so I am uber-impressed about your skills with that tool. Crooked lines? HA! Where? I don't see them! Thanks for joining us this week at Hand Stamped Sentiments! (...and thak you for the sweet shout out, too!) :)

I don't know about you but I prefer my sewing lines to look anything but perfect. :-) I think it looks so much more sweet when you have imperfect elements. :-) LOVE your card!!! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Hand Stamped Sentiments.

This is sew cute, Maria! Ha! Just had to say that! It really is wonderful, though, and I adore your stitching. I personally like wobbly lines because to me it looks handmade, even if it is from a machine. Love your design, too. The typography paper is so fun, and I adore how you have placed the flowers. Really great job. Looking forward to seeing more sewing from you in the future. :)

Thanks for the smile, I entered a challenge this week with stitches too and didn't even attempt to actually stitch with a machine so my hat is off to you!!
